Registered Charity No. 1093289
The Etchingham Recreation Ground (Queen’s Garden) Trust is a registered Charitable Trust set up in 2002 to look after the ‘green’ area in the village known as The Queen’s Garden.
The Parish Council is the Trustee Body for the charity.
Queen’s Garden is a children’s play area with various items of playground equipment installed along with a football goal and basketball area, the site also hosts village events such as the the annual Fete and the Flower Show.
Recently ERGT has also taken responsibility for the Viper Play area on Station Approach, this was created by the village youth group with equipment more suited to older children and teenagers, the area was passed to the village when the youth group closed,
Current activity;
The current range of play equipment in Queen’s Garden was installed in 2003 and some is now past its usable life span. The annual safety inspection in October 2017 revealed safety issues with some of the equipment which had to be taken out of use, the inspection also revealed safety issues with some of the equipment on the viper site, this also had to be taken out of use. Parish Council has funded the replacement of both swing units in Queen’s Garden, but funds are limited so funding from other sources will be required to replace more items.
Etchingham Playgrounds has been set up to raise funds, on behalf of ERGT, to help fund replacement of playground equipment. A Facebook Group is running to give regular updates, there is also a Twitter page for progress updates. When fundraising starts a progress thermometer will be placed on this website and updated regularly.
